Our scoring philosophy
We score bottles on a 0–100 scale to give a concise summary of how much we enjoyed a given rum relative to others in our catalog. Scores are a single-dimensional summary and are intended as a starting point — read the full tasting note for context.
What the numbers mean
- 90–100: Exceptional — outstanding complexity, balance, and character.
- 80–89: Very good — excellent bottle with minor flaws or personal preferences.
- 70–79: Good — enjoyable and solid, but not remarkable.
- 60–69: Okay — has interesting features but falls short in balance.
- 0–59: Below expectations — notable flaws for the style or execution.
How we arrive at a score
We consider aroma, palate, finish, complexity, and overall balance. Each category contributes subjectively to the final score; we do not publish category-level breakdowns but strive for consistency across reviews.
